Vilnius university meteorological station has automatic sensors that were made by Coastal Environment Systems (US) and Kipp & Zonen (Netherlands). All of the measurements are made automatically and data is stored electronically. The station has various sensors that measure:

  • air temperature and humidity;
  • air pressure;
  • wind direction and speed;
  • precipitation and weather type;
  • solar radiation (direct, scattered, net, reflected, UV and balance);
  • daylight;
  • lightning;
  • cloud type and height;
  • visibility.

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the basis for civil time today. This 24-hour time standard is kept using highly precise atomic clocks combined with the Earth’s rotation. Lithuania’s local time is +2 hours during winter and +3 hours during summer.

During a solar eclipse in March 20th, 2015, Vilnius university meteorological station collected solar radiation data and an analysis was performed in order to evaluate the difference an eclipse made to solar radiation balance. You can download the analysis here .
